Day #1 Epic Bike Ride – La Push, WA to Crescent Lake, WA

Mary-Beth and I drove out of Coeur d’ Alene around 10:30 am on Thursday after having a goodbye coffee with our son Tyler, his wife Sadie and the boys. It was a long day of driving, waiting for the Ferry, and a fun Ferry ride arriving at our campsite in La Push after 10pm. The last hour of the ride Mary-Beth drove so I could get some car-ride shut-eye, my favorite kind!

We got to bed much later than we hoped as we made preparations for riding out early. We are still getting organized in our new home for the next few months.

It was a cold and misty morning and I must admit I was feeling a bit nervous. We spoke to the Park Manager and found it it was a 25 mile ride to the Trail Head for the Great American Rail Trail and the 1st 14 miles turned out to be uphill plus on a narrow but beautiful 2 lane road with a little shoulder. Mary-Beth was a bit worried about the narrow road and would have preferred me to drive to the trailhead, but this ride is coast to coast.

So how did things turn out for my 1st days ride? AMAZING! It was a beautiful day! I rode through some of the most spectacular scenery, I felt strong and my nutrition and hydration went well. I will make some minor adjustments for tomorrow. It was a wonderful time to enjoy the Lord and His creation and I could not be any happier.

You know I realized there is a hero in this story and it’s my wife. Mary-Beth is an amazing person she is smart, gracious, loving and resourceful! I could not have done any of this without her. Thank you my love!
