Day #2 Biking Across America Crescent Lake, WA to Port Townsend/ Whidbey Island

Day #2 was a much longer day! I did not ride into Port Townsend until 5pm. It started with a beautiful ride first up the mountain and then a really nice downhill. My Garmin missed the trailhead for the Olympic Discovery Trail that was at the top of the hill and took me on a 10 mile ride down the highway to another entrance. I had a difficult time, but finally found the entrance, but soon found I was heading in the wrong direction. Gratefully another biker stopped to ask a question and pointed me in the right direction. This was only the first of about 3 times I found myself lost on the route today.

All in all a lot more highway riding today. But also, some beautiful trail along the ocean as well. I finished the day with a 500 foot climb up a two lane road with no shoulder and a nice ditch to my right into Port Townsend. But I lived to tell about it!

As soon as I arrived in Port Townsend we got in the line for the Ferry to Whidbey Island where we spend the night. We stayed in a hospital parking lot, no campgrounds on the South part of the Island.

sometimes when we’re heading in the wrong direction, we need a friend to help get us on the right track!

I’ve been praying for you and MB, my friend. That especially when you get lost (we all do) and are on highways, that God’s mighty hand is protecting you and watching over MB in the motor home. Excited for your adventure! JB
