Day #17 Biking Across America Gardiner MT to Fishing Bridge, WY Yellowstone National Park – 45 Miles

“Climb Man Climb!” That phrase pretty much defined my day today. Starting at 5,200 feet, we ended up at 7,800 feet at Fishing Bridge, WY in Yellowstone Park. Yikes! That was a climb. I love my Garmin, when I am approaching a climb it says CLIMB, CLIMB, CLIMB!

Although the entire ride today was on the road, the nice thing is that the speed limits in the Park are much lower, the max is 45 mph. The downside to riding in the Park is that there is no cell service, wifi or satellite coverage for our walkie talkies.

The park is amazing in particular the wildlife! The craziest part of the day was when a bison herd was crossing the highway. Traffic was stopped in both directions and this was quite precarious for a guy on a bike. Mary-Beth was following behind me in the motorhome, and was quite nervous about our furry friends. At dinner she asked me if I was afraid when I was going through on my bike. I told her I did not have time to be scared, I was trying to figure out how to get through the maze of bison without tangling with one of them.

You might be asking how I did it. Well, I had bison on both sides of the road, so I snuggled up behind a truck & travel trailer and followed them really close until I was past the crossing creatures. It was quite exciting!

Yellowstone is quite a place, everyone would be blessed to see it. Thanks for joining us on the journey.
