I have mentioned before that one of the biggest problems I have been having on this biking adventure has been navigation. I had the problem again today on steroids! I left the campsite early this morning for Thermopolis and was following the directions on Google Maps. It told me to make a left onto Hwy 14 and after about 1/2 mile a right turn onto a county dirt road. When I made the turn there was a gate across the road and a no trespassing sign. This is not the first time that has happened. Since I could not make the turn I continued on Hwy 14.

Over the next 10 miles or so the directions kept trying to get me to turn onto various dirt roads, but I had decided to stay on the main Highway. About 18 miles in I stopped and checked the map, zooming it out to make sure I was headed in the right direction. To my dismay I realized I was on the wrong Hwy, I needed to be on Hwy 20 going South out of GreyBull! I used the walkie talkie to reach Mary-Beth, told her what happened and asked if she could come get me and bring me back to the correct starting point, thankfully she dropped what she was doing, unhooked all the Rv lines, which she can do lickety split now and came to rescue me. Although this was a real bummer that I had ridden so far in the wrong direction, it reminded us both of an important truth in the spiritual life. Even when you have the best intentions you can still get off track. And, if you’re not careful you can get way off track!

When we get off track what do we do? Well in my case it meant a 180 degree turn back to the right path. And often times it requires reaching out for help. Although painful, it was a really good reminder for me today. With the help of my sweet wife, I got back on track and made it to my destination. Thank you Jesus and Mary-Beth!
