Day #28 Biking Across America – Ewing to Wisner, Nebraska – 82 Miles

We fell asleep last night to a soft rain on the roof of our motorhome that continued through the night. Nights like this make me wonder what the next days ride will be like. When we woke up this morning, there was not a cloud in the sky and the forecast was hot.

I began my ride for the day on the Cowboy Trail once again which was to take me all the way to Norfolk. But it wasn’t long before I ran into the sign below, which put me back on Hwy 275 all the way to Norfolk where I met Mary-Beth for lunch. I arrived a little after 1pm and it was HOT by then!

The upside to riding on Hwy 275 is I can push a lot faster which makes the miles pass more quickly. Once I left Norfolk there were some hills to climb. But with hills almost always comes downhill as well.

Eventually the 4 lane divided Hwy went down to two lanes. But the good news is they are building 2 new lanes right next to the road that are not open yet. It is a beautiful concrete road that nobody was using, so I decided to try it out. The entire last 15 miles I road with this brand-new road all to myself. I did have to dodge a few contstruction workers here and there.

We are camping at the Elkhorn River in Wisner Nebraska tonight which is a really beautiful spot. Heading toward Omaha tomorrow. We will end up in Lincoln for the Huskers game with our friends the Penners from San Diego and will take our rest day with them in Beatrice and Bob’s family farm.

Thanks for joining us on the journey!
