I was looking forward to another morning of a beautiful Iowa trail ride, this time on my fast bike! After leaving the Adventure Land Campground to the trail head I saw the all too familiar closed gate and “Trail Closed” sign. I decided that I was going to ride the trail anyway wondering why it was closed.
I did not have to ride long before I saw the first reason this section of the trail was closed, there was a huge tree down that was covering the bike path. I made my way around the tree and continued down the path only to find a whole section of the trail had eroded and fallen into the creek, and it was a long way down!
Apparently “Trail Closed” simply opened my curiosity and I accepted the challenge. The remainder of the trail was open and beautiful!
Because I wanted to stay off of dirt roads today since I I was riding my road bike, I rode Hwy 6 most of the afternoon. I found myself riding in the lane because this two lane highway had very little shoulder. Thankfully It’s a lower traffic road, but still had the occasional semi truck passing which feels like wind tunnel. That was a little crazy!!
