Day #35 Biking Across America, Wilton, Iowa to Illiniwek Forrest Preserve, Illinois- 39 Miles – Total miles = 2,453

Saturday morning Was an exciting time, Mary-Beth was literally up with the chickens. She heard the rooster start crowing and she jumped out of bed and ran outside to see him make his rounds waking up all the farm animals one at a time. And here I thought that only happened in children’s books, but apparently everybody on a farm is on the Roosters schedule.

Here are a few of our farm friends we wanted to introduce you to. My favorite was Hank the Great Pyrenees, he was a sweetheart. Mary-Beth liked the pig with a dental issue.

In any case it was a beautiful morning for a ride in Davenport and across the Mississippi River into Illinois. It was cool, but the sun was shinning and there were incredible puffy clouds and an amazing sunrise.

We met at a fun coffee shop in Davenports old town, nothing like a coffee in one hand and a scone in the other! After the pit stop we drove over to the bike shop and took both bikes in for a tune up. We have been almost 2,500 miles and about 2,000 since the last maintenance. This week had some rough riding and the Trek needed a tune so after a spa time the bikes were ready to roll again!

Mary-Beth drove me back to the coffee shop and I rode out across the bridge and to our campsite on the Mississippi River for the next two nights. Tomorrow is our rest day and we started it off with a burrito dinner and this really tasty dessert.

Thanks for joining us on the journey!
