Today was a perfect Spring day! It was blue skies and 70 degrees perfect for an 81 mile ride. I rode the Hennepin Canal Bike Trail. The canal was built in the 19th-century to connect the Mississippi River with the Illinois River to move commerce across Illinois long before modern highways and railroads. It was a great scenic ride!
Mary-Beth tracked me down for our mid-day meet up a long a country road. Apple Maps sent her on a bit of a wild goose chase trying to find me. I was sitting on a guard rail on the side of the road, and finally I saw THOR driving up the road, she found me!
We had lunch and shared our stories of the morning before we both got back on the road. We would meet at the campsite in Peru in about 3 hours.
As I left the canal trail and wound through the farm land towards Peru it was clear to me that it was harvest time. Found out John Deere’s headquarters is in Moline where we started our journey today and there were plenty in the fields harvesting the corn and soybeans. All of the silos were active receiving the harvested corn with track and tractor running up the back roads.
