Day #40 Biking Across America, Rochester to Ft Wayne, Indiana – 73 Miles

Well, we had a very interesting night! A deluge of rain hit our campsite as Mary-Beth arrived and was setting up for the night. I was about 10 miles out and somehow managed to stay behind the storm, so I wasn’t drenched! Thank you Jesus! I have already had enough rain for this week.

As I got closer to the campsite the roads were wet and there were lots of puddles, but glad to have missed the downpour. When I arrived at camp, the rain had stopped and it did not begin again until bedtime. And did it come, it poured all night and did a pretty good job keeping us awake. Mary-Beth was nervous that the river was going to rise and we were going to float away.

We woke up in the morning and it was still lightly raining. Sunrise was not until 8am, which made it difficult along with the rain to get out of bed, but we managed slowly to get ourselves ready for the day.

Today’s ride into Ft. Wayne was through beautiful farmland and lakes. I realized that I forgot the cord to my battery charger and my phone was almost dead. I radioed MB and she said she would drive out and find me and give me my cord.

I stopped by a farm that I was passing and the Farmer asked if I needed help, I said “do you have an iPhone charging cord?” He went and got one from his car. When he asked me where I was biking from and I said La Push Beach in Washington, State. He responded with a “whaaaat?” I repeated myself a 2nd time. He said “you can just keep the cord.” What a kind man!

We are a bit ahead of schedule, so we have decided to spend the weekend in Ft. Wayne. I will ride out to Akron on Monday and God willing will arrive by Thursday. Our son is meeting us in Akron on Saturday to ride with me into DC for the finish. We will spend some time with friends in the Akron area while we are there.

Thanks for joining us on the journey!
