Day #42 Biking Across America, Pandora to Nevada, Ohio – 56 Miles

Another beautiful Fall day of riding today on my fast bike! One of the things on this epic bike ride that I have not talked about is my animal encounters. In the Western US one of the more surprising things I ran into were cows. Yes Cows!

On at least 4 different occasions I found myself in the company of cows on the bike trail. There would be a group of them standing blocking the bike path. I would ring my bike bell, they would look up at me but not move. So I would start to ride toward them ringing my bell. They would start to run, not away from me, but with me. Many want to run with the bulls in Pamplona one day well I got to practice first biking with the Cows!

Tonight we are staying at a Harvest Host winery, yes Ohio has wineries. One of the many interesting places we have stayed. They have 2 friendly cats that roam the property.

On a different animal encounter as I was winding through the farmlands I had canine obstacle course encounters that turned my peaceful bike ride into a four legged adrenaline rush as they chased and barked aggressively!

Today, two of them saw me as I was riding past their farm and came running after me. One of them was the fastest and most aggressive dog I have ever encountered! I really had to push to out run this dog, I looked down and I was doing 20 mph. I had to laugh, some days I feel like I am in a “dog”video game with all the dogs that come after me.

Tomorrow will be my last day of solo riding on this trip. Thursday a church planter friend Mike will join me to ride into Akron and Saturday my son Trey joins me to ride into DC. The excitement and anticipation is growing each day as we get closer to reaching our goal. I am so grateful to God for allowing me to have this amazing experience, including the cows and dogs!

Thank you for joining us on the journey!
