Day #50 Biking Across America, Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia to Washington DC – 62 Miles

Well, Day 50 has finally arrived and a number of people have asked me, “How does it feel?” I can best describe how I feel at this moment by saying it is surreal. I feel almost like I have been living in a movie or a video game, and I can’t believe we actually did it and fulfilled a long held dream.

My heart is overflowing with gratitude towards the Lord, and my amazing wife, for being all in with me on this great adventure. There are many ways that the Lord has met me in this journey. As you can imagine I am still processing much. When the right time comes I will share it with you.

Right down to the weather, yesterday was a near perfect day. To be honest, I have felt bad asking God for good weather, it seems arrogant to ask God to change the weather across an entire country so I have good riding weather.

When we checked the forecast for this week it showed rain everyday this week! Yikes! So I did ask the Lord to help me with this issue humbly. Looking back on the week, I only rode in the rain for 45 minutes one afternoon and 1/2 day the next day.

When we rode into DC yesterday it was almost 80 degrees, everyone we spoke with said this was very unusual for this time of year in DC. Once again, God I felt God wink at me.

How does it feel to be done? Amazing, and finishing with my son Trey was the cherry on top. He was a great encouragement to me while he was here and very helpful. I love that young man!

As for what is next? I have a long ride home to think, but for now, Tucker, Kelsie & their four kids arrive for a week in DC. After that, our friends Glenn & Lisa Hammill will fly out and we are doing a National Park tour back to Chicago where they fly home and Mary-Beth and I will drive home Route 66 on it’s 100th anniversary.

Lastly, I want to express how grateful Mary-Beth and I are for all of you, our friends and family who have joined us on this journey, prayed for us and rooted us on the finish line! We could not have done it without you. I will keep posting here through-out the rest of our time, so stay tuned.

Once again, thanks for joining us on the journey!
